On Saturday 7th July 2018 the National Assoc. of Boys and Girls Clubs Table Tennis Championship finals took place at Dean’s Sport & Leisure, Lincoln. The Market Rasen Junior Table Tennis Club entered Jacob Bennett, James Naseby and Henry James. Both Jacob and James already play in the Lincoln League in the 2nd Division (we came runners up this year – Jacob with an impressive 95% and James 55% in his first season of league play – quite an achievement for the young folk). Henry, playing in his first competitive competition ever at these Championships, will be joining the boys next season together with his friend Tom Weeks both from Middle Rasen and Alister McNeil of Moortown – another up and coming junior. Jacob who played in the U’19’s category and finished in 2nd place, said, “This is the first time I have played against a guy in a wheelchair – what a great experience to witness how he still excels in his sport”. James played in the U’16’s category and finished in 3rd place. He said “I am glad I came and enjoyed all my tight matches, I hope to play in some more tournaments in the future”. Henry, who played in the U’14’s category and finished in 6th place said “This was the first time I have played in a tournament and I think that I have improved a lot having played it”.

On Friday 18th December 2015, Market Rasen J Table Tennis Club held a “Launch Night” for its first club evening at its new venue Faldingworth Memorial Hall. It was well attended and our four tables were in constant use all evening.
Thanks to all the parents who came along it was great to see over 20 people enjoying playing, drinking tea/coffee and eating mince pies. What a welcome the local folk gave us!! We are now hoping to arrange coaching courses for young players/beginners/advanced groups when we start up again in the New Year. All ages are welcome.

Market Rasen Table Tennis Club’s Junior British League team competed again – the 2ndweekend at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Staffordshire on the 8th/9th February 2014. After 10 matches over two weekends they finished in 3rd place in the final table of Division 3A only 2 points away from the team above and promotion to the 2nd division. From left to right in the photograph Carl Baldry, James Keast, Timmy Cooper and Lee Dorning – an excellent achievement in this prestigious league at such a high level of competition. VETTS BRITISH LEAGUE -“WINNERS”
The second weekend in Doncaster on the 25th/26thJanuary 2014 our LADIES I finished at the top of the PREMIER DIVISION. I believe this is a first as they have finished runners-up the previous 2 seasons. What a tight finish with “The Bribar Bunch” again. Equal on points and sets after the first weekend (played in Hereford) and into the last match still equal on points and sets (the 5thmatch against “Bribar Bunch” on the Sunday clinched the 2 points needed to WIN. Congratulations to Lesley Keast (captain) with Rosemary Rainton and Jane Vickers – they played all 10 matches over the two weekends – A REAL TEAM EFFORT!!! Disapointment for our Mens’ Premier Division team. Thomasz Rzeszotko (our No.1) dislocated his knee 2 weeks earlier playing in the Vetts Western Masters. The team sadly struggled on but could not avoid relegation to the 1stdivision. Our 2nd Ladies Team lost out on promotion to the 1st division Ladies by only 1 set to their arch rivals RTA – never mind we will all give it another go next season.

National Junior League 2012/2013

National Junior League 2012/2013

For the past 5 years we have organised in the De-Aston Sports Centre a National Cadet League or a National Junior League. Last season was our last one so it was interesting for our 3 teams (mainly De-Aston pupils) to travel to Scunthorpe for this competition on four Saturdays during the winter months (2 before Christmas and 2 after). No Cadets league so they all played in the older aged National Junior League.
Nick Keast, Pearce Mitchell, Declan Dickinson, Macauley Bowers, Jordan Ogungbo, Dominic Batey, Jacob Bennett, Jake Hearn, Chloe Brack, Lewis Brack and Jacob Lowe (from the Healing School) and Chloe Lingard (from Keelby Primary) played in 3 teams. Almost all of the above-named were in their first year of table tennis so they all competed in the 2nd division. Rasen A won the division and were presented with ETTA winners medals with Rasen C coming 2nd. All smartly turned out in the royal blue/black shirts of the Market Rasen TT Club.Because this was a recognised National competition, their wins led to them picking up England ranking points in the Junior lists – this gave a lot of motivation to winning as many matches as they could and will carry forward to next year.

British Junior League 2012/2013
2012/2013 was a difficult season. With Adam Curran playing the first week-end and Adam Jepson the second the twins James & Thomas Keast of Market Rasen TTC and De-Aston School made their debut. This is the most prestigious league National team competition there is and the boys acquitted themselves admirably. Finishing 3rd in the final table for Division 4A. – We could have finished in 2nd place and won ourselves a place in Division 3 but we will have to wait until next season to see teams entered. We were equal with Morpeth Greenhouse on everything except we lost a close match which we should have drawn then we would have been equal on points – interesting.
Team Name | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Sets For | Sets Against | Points |
Fusion | 10 | 8 | 1 | 1 | 44 | 16 | 17 |
Morpeth Greenhouse | 10 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 35 | 25 | 12 |
Rasen Racers | 10 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 35 | 25 | 11 |
Burton Uxbridge 2 | 10 | 5 | 1 | 4 | 34 | 26 | 11 |
Rugby | 10 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 31 | 29 | 9 |
York Gardens | 10 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 0 |

Rasen Racers, consisting of 3 young brothers, all pupils of De-Aston School
and living in Market Rasen exceeded all expectations by finishing runners-up in
the Premier Division team event of the National Cadet League played at
Wellingborough over four week-ends. The enthusiastic and talented team
produced some outstanding individual performances
British Junior League 2011/2012
In the Junior British League 2011-2012 season the Market Rasen TTC continued to field a team.In the Boys Division 4A with Ryan and Dean Richardson (from Northumberland) and Henry McTernan the “Rasen Racers” finished in 4th position. Both weekends were keenly fought and we were well pleased with the team’s performance.

On Sunday 20th March at De-Aston Sports Centre we welcomed Mary Jane Barr, our local Co-op Post Office Manager, to present their £1,000 cheque to the club’s Secretary and Coach Sylvia Tyler. The club were delighted to receive this Community Grant, this purchased new table tennis tables for the club to replace damaged ones. Our juniors will benefit as will our adult Community Group table tennis sessions held on Thursday evenings. We welcome anyone interested in playing table tennis socially or in league play to come along. Every Thursday 8.00pm – 10.00pm in the gymnasium at De-Aston Sports Centre.

competition the winners were Ancaster Falcons, who finished top of the 1st Division by only 1 point in front of runners-up Rasen Warriors. The winners – Ancaster.

It was pleasing to see Lincoln win the 2nd Division in their debut into this League. Market Rasen fielded 3 teams from the 10 Lincolnshire teams.

TEAMS IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
The first weekend of the Veterans British League took place in Hereford on 6th/7th November 2010. With Market Rasen teams in both Mens and Ladies Premier Divisions. In the photo are the squads from left to right: Joanne Kennedy, Richard Lightowler, Lesley Keast, Jimmy Walsh, Denise McEvoy, Jimmy Brewster, Brian Hill and Jane Vickers. For the first time the mens’ team were playing in the Premier Division and their results showed that they must practise even harder if they are to stay in this Division next season. They had 1 victory out of 5 matches and drew one other gaining just 3 points – but they were not at the bottom of the division and had had some very close games that could have been winning matches. The squad consists mainly of Lincolnshire home grown players and bodes well for the future. The Ladies team also playing in the Premier Division with Lesley Keast, former Welsh International, from Market Rasen and the remaining players from the East Midlands. They played well and with 3 wins and 2 draws, unbeaten after 5 matches, they top the Premier Division with 8 points. Lesley and Jane Vickers, from Derbyshire, winning 8 out of 10 and 7 out of 8 respectively. An excellent week end.

Boys and girls from the Lincolnshire County squads enjoyed a 4 hourworkout with John Mapletoft an ETTA qualified coach from Grantham leading the proceedings. Sylvia Tyler, a qualified ETTA coach, head coach at Market Rasen, and now a recently qualified UKCC Level 2 table tennis coach organised the first of several sessions to take place at the Sports Centre. Bryn Tyler and Lesley Keast both qualified ETTA coaches and Welsh International players were able to help the youngsters with coaching on how to win matches, and the need for consistency and good footwork. The youngsters are training for County matches in the County Championships in the forthcoming season. A second County Training day was held in October with Paul Johnson from Gainsborough as the leading coach, he is the current Senior Lincolnshire Men’s Champion for 2009/10 season. Again the players were put through their paces for a 4 hour stretch to prepare them for the two County Junior team events at Halifax and Draycott in Derby the following Saturday. Both teams had good wins on the day and benefited by these training sessions.12 invited players on each occasion came from Ancaster, Grantham, Scunthorpe, Skegness, Grimsby, Caistor and Market Rasen. The Centre is ideal for such training days and will be used as often as possible.

Blitz Table Tennis Club from Gainsborough and Market Rasen Table Tennis Club held a “Friendly” Fun Day of Sport on Sunday 22nd August at De Aston Sports Centre with table tennis in the morning and cricket in the afternoon. The table tennis competition was won by doubles pair Shaun Ward from Grimsby, a member of the Market Rasen club and local De-Aston school pupil Thomas Steer from Market Rasen. The photograph shows the group of youngsters who took part, together with the winners Shaun and Thomas and Leanne Beardall from the Sports Centre. A cricket match with players from both clubs with a BBQ took place in the afternoon at a local member’s ground at The Woodlands, Market Rasen. The day was a complete success enjoyed by all with the sunshine playing an important part.

Organised by the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.
